Overview

Email Digests automatically compile your published changelog entries and send them as a beautifully formatted newsletter to your subscribers. Available on Pro plan and above.

On the Enterprise plan, you get access to dual audiences (public + customers), subscriber management, advanced email customization, and open/click analytics.

How It Works

  1. Go to Project Settings → Email Digest (or click the "Email Digest" button on your project page)
  2. Enable the digest and choose a frequency: weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly
  3. Configure the sender name, subject line, and email branding
  4. Users subscribe via the public changelog page, where a subscription form is displayed automatically
  5. Digests are compiled and sent automatically at the scheduled time, including all entries published since the last digest

Customization

All plans with email digests can customize the following:

  • From Name: The sender name displayed in recipients' inboxes
  • Subject Template: Use {{period}} for dynamic text (e.g., "What shipped this week")
  • Logo: Add your brand logo at the top of the email
  • Primary Color: Match the email accent color to your brand
  • Header Message: Custom intro text below the logo. Supports {{project_name}}
  • Footer Message: Custom text in the email footer
  • Show Excerpts: Toggle whether entry descriptions are included
  • Unsubscribe: One-click unsubscribe link is always included (GDPR compliant)

Dual Audiences: Public & Customers

Enterprise plans support two separate digest lists per project, each with its own configuration, subscriber list, and content filtering:

Separate configurations

Each audience has its own frequency, branding, subject line, and advanced customization. Switch between them via the Public Digest / Customer Digest tabs in the settings.

Subscriber Management

Enterprise

Enterprise plans include a full subscriber management interface accessible from Project Settings → Email Digest → Manage Subscribers.

Public Subscribers

  • Users self-subscribe via your public changelog page
  • View, search, and export your subscriber list
  • Remove individual subscribers if needed

Customer Subscribers

  • Add manually: Enter email and optional name one by one
  • Import CSV: Bulk import from a CSV file (columns: email, name)
  • Export CSV: Download your full subscriber list with engagement data
CSV format

Your CSV file should have columns email,name. The header row is optional; it will be auto-detected. Each imported subscriber is marked as active by default.

Advanced Customization

Enterprise

Enterprise plans unlock additional email customization options:

  • Banner Image: Full-width image displayed below the email header
  • CTA Button: Custom call-to-action button with text and URL, displayed after the entries
  • Social Links: Add Twitter, LinkedIn, and website links in the email footer
  • Reply-To Email: Set a custom reply-to address so recipient replies go to your support team
  • Remove Branding: Hide the "Powered by ReleaseGlow" footer

Click Preview Email on the digest settings page to see a live preview of your configured email template with sample entries.

Tracking & Analytics

Enterprise

Enterprise plans include email engagement tracking. Access analytics from Project Settings → Email Digest → View Analytics.

How Tracking Works

  • Open tracking: A 1x1 transparent pixel is embedded in the email. When loaded, it records a unique open per subscriber
  • Click tracking: Links in the email are wrapped with a redirect URL that records the click before redirecting to the target
  • Tracking data is fire-and-forget, so it never delays email delivery or link navigation

Dashboard Metrics

  • Total Sent: Number of emails sent across all digests
  • Open Rate: Percentage of unique opens per send
  • Click Rate: Percentage of unique clicks per send
  • Click-to-Open Rate (CTR): Clicks divided by opens
  • Top Entries: The 5 most clicked changelog entries
  • Send History: Detailed log of each digest send with per-send stats
Per-subscriber engagement

Each subscriber's total opens and clicks are tracked over time. View individual engagement in the Subscriber Management table.
